Harriet Tubman was one of many slaves of made it successfully north. She was special though, because not only did she make it north, but also guided over 300 others. She was born around 1821 on a plantation in Dorchester County, Maryland. She always detested slavery. She was separated from her two sisters and had been beaten. She began the risky trip North in 1849. She escaped to Pennsylvania where she served as a cook. She wanted to help her people in the South become free like her, so, in a span on 12 years, she made 19 trips to the South. In 1857 she was able to free her parents and found them a home in Auburn, New York. She dies on March 10, 1913.
