In 1808 a law was passed to make the importing of Africans illegal in the United States. This increased the price of slaves because they had all the slaves in the United States they were going to get (besides the reproduction of families already in the states). They were being separated from their families so many more slaves tried to run away. The problem of runaway slaves only increased.
