The slave trade's main purpose was for profit. The captains of slave ships tried to bring as many healthy slaves in a slittle time and cost as possible. There are two different systems most captains used: loos packing and tight packing. In loose packing, captains transported fewer slaves than their ships could carry in the hope of reducing sickneess and death among them. In thight packing, they overlfowed the ships believeing that they would die either weay and this wayt ehre would be more left. The amount of Africans estimated to hvae been enslaved from the 1500's - 1800's is avout 10 million.
